No. There is no limit to the size of the index or the number of indexed items. However, a large index requires more memory and more time to perform searches. So the only limit is the power of your computer (disk space, CPU speed). Will Copernic Desktop Search always be free? There will always be a free version of Copernic Desktop Search. In addition, we plan to come out with a paid version of CDS with additional features for advanced users, as we did with our very successful Copernic Agent product. The purpose of the "Quick Preview" pane is to provide a preview of matching files without opening an external application. The advantage of the preview pane is that it is displayed almost instantaneously and automatically scrolls to the first occurrence of your search terms making it unnecessary to open files. However, files may not be displayed exactly as they were saved and embedded images will not be displayed. Is there a way to make sure that Copernic Desktop Search always indexes at full speed? Yes. By default, CDS does not index while you are using your mouse or keyboard, or when your CPU is being heavily solicited by another application. You can change these configuration settings from the "Index Update" tab of the "Options" window of CDS. Why not? By default, CDS only indexes the file types that it recognizes. You can specify additional file types to index from the "Advanced" tab of the "Options" window of CDS. You can choose whether you want to index only the file properties (name, date, size, etc.) or to index the files as text files. What are the email applications supported by CDS? In the current version of CDS, only Outlook Express 5.x/6.x and Outlook 2000/XP/2003 are supported. Note that on-the-fly indexing is not available for Outlook Express. I am running Windows 98/ME and my files are not indexed "on the fly" as stated. Why not? Unfortunately, on-the-fly indexing of files is not technically possible with these operating systems. It is only available on Windows XP/2000/NT. Under Windows 98/ME, CDS performs a periodic rescan of your file folders to look for new and updated files. Where are the index data files of Copernic Desktop Search stored? Can I change the location of their folder? By default, the index data files are stored in a per-user path like this: "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Copernic\DesktopSearch." This ensures that all users of your computer have their own personal index stored in a non-shared location.
